Nigeria’s Central Bank Debunks Reports Of New ₦5,000, ₦10,000 Notes

  According to the reports, the CBN was set to introduce the new notes to reduce cash-handling costs and improve liquidity management. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has refuted claims that it has introduced new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 notes, describing the reports as false. This comes after widespread misinformation suggested that the apex bank had unveiled the high-denomination banknotes to enhance cash transactions. According to the reports, the CBN was set to introduce the new notes to reduce cash-handling costs and improve liquidity management. Some of these claims even attributed statements to a supposed Deputy Governor, Dr Ibrahim Tahir Jr., regarding the rollout of the notes from May 1, 2025. However, the CBN has denied these reports, stating: "This content is NOT from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Kindly note that the official website of the CBN is  cbn.gov.ng ."

Singer Portable Declared Wanted for Alleged Violent Attack on Police Officers

  The Ogun State Police Command has declared controversial singer Habeeb Olalomi, popularly known as Portable, wanted for allegedly leading a violent attack on government officials during an enforcement exercise. According to a statement issued on Monday by the command's spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred on February 5, 2025, around 10:00 a.m. when three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office-TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi-were conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota. NEWS“From Next Year, Only N200 Notes & Below Will be Loaded In ATM” – CBN Sets N20k per Day at POS, N100k per Week From Banks

  The Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) has announced a strict naira control order starting from January 9, 2023. According to CBN; “Only denominations of N200 and below shall be loaded into the ATMs” The bank also said, adding that the new policy is sequel to the launch of the redesigned N200, N500 and N1,000 notes by President Muhammadu Buhari on November 23, 2022. The CBN further fixed daily maximum withdrawals via point of sale (PoS) terminal at N20,000. “The maximum cash withdrawal per week via Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) shall be N100,000 subject to a maximum of N20,000 cash withdrawal per day. CBN memo; Here is a quick breakdown of CBN’s cash withdrawal changes: N100k – N500k limit for individuals and corporate, respectively. N50k limit for 3rd party cheque. N20k limit per day N200 and lower notes only in ATMs. N20,000 cash withdrawal limits from POS per day. Withdrawals above these limits shall attract processing fees of 5% and 10%, respectively.

A Man Arrested For Allegedly Procuring Abortion For His Girlfriend Which Caused Her Death. A 50-year old man, Wisdom Okoro, has been arrested for procuring abortion pills for his girlfriend which led to her death. Police operative attached to the Ikorodu Division of the Lagos State Police Command arrested the suspect on April 11, 2021, for the sudden death of his girlfriend, identified as Enobong Udoh, 38yrs. One Blessing Pius, reported to the police that Enobong Udoh was found dead in her house along Igbogbo Road, Ikorodu, on April 11, 2021 at about 10am.
